I was very excited to hear The Cube dining experience by Electrolux would be located atop the Stockholm Opera house whilst I was visiting Stockholm. I’ve seen this project on various Archi blogs for a little while now. Precariously perched on the Brandenburg Gate and other major European landmarks. It is a (relatively) small single room restaurant seating only 17 diners at any one time, and is completely demountable. It is working its way around the world providing the lucky few that have the opportunity to eat there an unprecedented view of their city with local chef’s providing the culinary delights to match the surroundings. It is a great example of parasitic architecture actually put into practice and not just on paper, with the new temporarily clamping onto the old. Here are my images of the Stockholm installation, and a couple of inside ones from their web site (as I definitely didn’t eat there). There is now one located in London….just in time for the games!
