ok I’m a bit slow putting these pics up but I have actually had work to do for once! Anyway while we were down in Sundsvall it was the 1st of May which is a public holiday here called Valborg.  In short every little community group, school group, neighborhood and council collect all there scraps of timber and branches they can find and stack up huge bonfires which are then lit that night…kind of a welcoming spring…go away winter ceremony!  We went up to the main one ran by the city which was all very traditional and family oriented. This also meant that the flames were a little ‘safe’ and it kind of resulted in a lot of smoke!  Along with the bonfire there was lots of traditional food stalls and an old bakery being run by two old ladies which was probably my favorite part, all seemed very authentic. Hope you like the pics.

In Australia they’d call it ‘bush fire prevention’ – maybe making it a party would be more fun : )

  2. Yeh I don’t think we could ever have this in Australia, there’s way too many people that would get drunk and fires out of control 😛 Only responsible swedes can pull this off.
